Ashen hand tree (wide open hand)

Giant dead fantasy tree, semi-stylized and eerie: a trunk of strands braided like a rope that opens at the top into an upturned hand of fingers cupping an open palm, limbs ending in fiddlehead curls, roots arching over the ground. Dormant and dead: ash-grey bark with dark grooves and a grey lichen crust, no veins, thorny twigs with dry brown-grey leaves and a few dried blooms, and a handful of dim ember-orange glowing buds.
