1. Who we are and what these terms cover
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Firesight Studios LLC ("Firesight Studios", "we", "us"). They cover the GRIT desktop application and engine (the "App") and every online service we run for it (together, the "Services"), including:
- your GRIT account, sign-in, device activation and licensing;
- GRIT Pro and any other paid plan or add-on;
- the GRIT Library: models, materials, textures, fonts and UI kits, including assets shared by the community;
- community uploads you share to the Library;
- game hosting: publishing web builds, game pages, images, ratings, comments and reports;
- Remix: sharing your game's project source and making your own version of someone else's;
- player services for published games: cloud save slots and leaderboards;
- Cloud projects: snapshots, version history, restore and download of your projects;
- contests, public profiles, the Library's "wanted" requests, release notes and app updates.
Some Services have extra terms that also apply when you use them: the Library Asset License, the Acceptable Use Policy, the Copyright and DMCA Policy, and the official rules of each contest. Our Privacy Policy explains what we collect and why. If these Terms and an extra term conflict, the extra term wins for that Service.
By creating an account, signing in, installing or using the App, or using any Service, you agree to these Terms. If you use the Services for an organization, you agree for it and confirm you may bind it.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be at least 13 years old, and old enough to agree to these Terms where you live; if you are under the age of majority, a parent or guardian must agree to them for you. You may not use the Services if you are barred from doing so by law, or if we have closed your account before.
Before you can use an account, we ask for your date of birth to confirm your age. We record that you confirmed it, when, and whether you were 18 or over, but not the date itself. If the date shows you are under 13, we don't create the account, and delete one just made. Giving a false date of birth breaks these Terms.
You sign in with a Google account. Keep it secure: you are responsible for everything done through your account and the devices you activate. Each activated device gets its own token; you can see and sign out devices from your account, and older devices beyond the allowed number are signed out automatically. Tell us at once if you think someone else is using your account.
Your public profile (handle, display name, bio and picture) is chosen by you and shown with what you publish. Don't pick a name that impersonates someone or infringes a trademark.
3. The App
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the App on devices you control, for making games and other projects, in line with these Terms and the license file that ships with the App. You may not sell, rent or sublicense the App, remove its notices, or work around its licensing or entitlement checks, except where the law allows despite this restriction.
The App may include third-party and open-source components, each under its own license; those licenses govern those components. The built-in fonts are free fonts under their own licences (OFL or Apache), which are copied into your project beside each font.
The App updates itself from our servers. Some versions or features may require an update to keep working with the Services.
4. AI features, your own API keys, and agents
The App's AI assistant works with AI providers you choose (for example Anthropic, OpenAI, Google or a local model) using your own API keys. Your prompts, project context and files you send to the assistant go directly from your computer to that provider under its own terms and privacy policy; they do not pass through our servers. You are solely responsible for your keys, for complying with each provider's terms, and for every charge they bill, including charges caused by bugs, loops or unexpected agent behavior.
The assistant can act on your computer: create, change and delete files; run terminal commands; use Git; control the engine, Blender, a browser and, if you enable it, your desktop; and connect to MCP servers and other tools you add. You choose how much it may do without asking. Review what it does, keep backups, and don't give it access you wouldn't give a person. We are not responsible for what an AI model or third-party tool does or produces.
AI output can be wrong, insecure, or similar to someone else's work. You are responsible for checking it, and for having the rights to whatever you put in your projects and publish. As between you and us, you own the output you create with the App, to the extent the law allows anyone to own it.
5. Your content
"Your Content" means what you make or upload: projects, cloud snapshots, game builds and pages, shared source, community assets, images, comments, ratings, reports, contest entries, profile details and player saves and scores. You keep every right you have in Your Content. We claim no ownership of your projects.
You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, copy, process, transmit, display and distribute Your Content only as needed to run, secure and improve the Services you use, and as you direct: for example, serving a published game to its players, showing a public game on the Games page, sending a Cloud project back to you, or offering a community asset you shared to everyone. This license ends when you delete Your Content or your account, except for (a) copies kept for a limited time in backups and for legal reasons, (b) content others received under the license you gave them (for example a community asset another user already added to their game, or a remix someone already made), and (c) comments and ratings that are part of a shared page, which may stay without your name.
You confirm that you own or have every right needed for Your Content and for the licenses in these Terms, and that it does not break the law, the Acceptable Use Policy, or anyone's rights. Library assets and built-in fonts in your games remain under their own licenses.
6. GRIT Library
The Library offers assets made by GRIT ("verified") and by GRIT users ("community", reviewed by us before they are listed). Every asset is licensed to you under the Library Asset License, which says how you may use it in your games. Some assets are free; others need GRIT Pro or a purchase. Downloads are checked against signed manifests and tied to your account.
We may update, re-categorize or remove assets, for example after a report or a takedown. Removing an asset from the Library does not take away the rights you already received for projects that use it, unless we must remove it for legal reasons or the asset infringed someone's rights.
Library searches that find nothing may be counted, without your name, so we know what to make next.
7. Sharing assets with the community
When you share an asset to the Library, you confirm you made it or have the right to share it under these terms, and you grant us and every GRIT user the licenses in the Library Asset License for it, free of charge. We review shared assets and may decline, change listing details, or remove them at any time. Community assets are free unless we offer paid sharing under separate terms.
If you remove your asset or close your account, it leaves the Library, but people who already added it keep their rights in the projects that use it.
8. Publishing games, game pages and Remix
You can publish a web build of your game. Each game is served from its own web address. New games start unlisted (anyone with the link can play); you can make a game private (only you) or public (also listed on the Games page). You are the publisher of your game and responsible for it, including its content, its age suitability, its privacy practices toward its players, and the rights to everything in it.
Others can rate, comment on and report public games. You can manage your games and pages from your account; we may remove comments, ratings or games that break these Terms.
If you turn on Remix for a game, its current project source (the project's own files, not Library assets) becomes available to signed-in GRIT users, who may download it, change it and publish their own version, with your game credited as the original. You can turn Remix off; that stops new remixes, but versions already made stay with their makers. Only enable Remix for content you have the right to share this way.
Hosting has storage and game-count limits, which are higher with GRIT Pro. Games you delete, and games we take down, are kept for up to 30 days so mistakes can be undone, then deleted.
9. Player saves and leaderboards
Published games can save players' progress to the cloud and keep leaderboards for players signed in with a GRIT account. A game's owner sees its leaderboards and the public names on them; save data is stored for the player. Cheating leaderboards, or using save slots to store anything other than a game's saves, is not allowed. Saves and scores for a game are deleted when the game is deleted.
10. Cloud projects
Cloud projects keep snapshots of your project folders on our servers so you can see earlier versions, restore them and download them. Snapshots are taken when you choose Save to cloud, and automatically (on a timer while the project changes, and before large AI agent edits) once you have saved a project to the cloud yourself; you can turn automatic snapshots off.
Snapshots leave out content the App can recreate: build output and exports, version-control and dependency folders, caches, Library assets (fetched again on restore, subject to your rights at that time) and built-in fonts. Storage counts each distinct file once across all your snapshots.
- Free: up to 1 GB, 1 cloud project and 7 days of history.
- GRIT Pro: up to 25 GB, unlimited cloud projects and 90 days of history.
- The newest snapshot of each project is always kept. Older snapshots are removed once they are older than your plan's history window.
- If GRIT Pro ends, nothing is deleted at once: projects beyond the free allowance become read-only (you can still restore and download them), and your longer history is kept for 30 days, with warnings in the App and on your account, before free-plan history rules apply.
Cloud projects are a convenience, not a guaranteed backup. Keep your own copies of anything important. We are not liable for lost or corrupted snapshots except as stated in section 16.
11. Contests
Contests have their own official rules (dates, eligibility, judging, voting and prizes), shown on each contest's page; those rules are part of these Terms for that contest. Entries must be your own games, published through GRIT. We may disqualify entries or votes that break the rules or these Terms, including votes from multiple accounts.
12. GRIT Pro, purchases and payment
GRIT Pro is a subscription, billed monthly or yearly, that adds paid Library assets, more game hosting, more Cloud storage, projects and history, and other features we describe on the pricing page. Prices and what each plan includes are shown before you buy and may change; a price change applies from your next billing period after we tell you.
Payments are processed by Stripe, which may act as the reseller or merchant of record for your purchase and handles payment details, taxes and receipts; its terms apply to the payment. We never see your full card number.
Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in Manage billing on your account; you keep Pro until the end of the period you paid for. Unless the law where you live requires otherwise, payments are not refundable and there are no refunds for partial periods. A refund or chargeback ends the access it paid for: a refunded or charged-back GRIT Pro payment ends Pro at once, and paid Library assets first downloaded in the period it paid for stop being licensed unless they are already in one of your published games. After a chargeback, or a second refund, that account and the card used can't buy GRIT Pro again.
We may give promotional gifts, such as GRIT Pro for a time, a paid Library asset, or extra storage or slots. A gift works like its paid version while it lasts, ends on the date we show you (if any), can be withdrawn if it was given by mistake or the account breaks these Terms, and has no cash value. A gifted asset is licensed to you like a purchased one.
What stays after Pro ends: paid Library assets you downloaded while subscribed stay licensed for the projects and games that use them, including new builds of those games; new assets, and newer versions of assets, need Pro again (see the Library Asset License). Cloud projects follow section 10. Game hosting falls back to the free limits; games over the limits stay online, but you may not be able to publish new builds until you are within them.
13. Rules, reports and enforcement
Follow the Acceptable Use Policy. Anyone can report a game, comment or asset. We may review content that is reported or that our systems flag, and may remove content, limit features, or suspend or close accounts that break these Terms or the law, or that put users, us or the Services at risk. Where it's reasonable and lawful, we will tell you what we did and why, and you can reply to us to ask us to reconsider.
Copyright complaints follow the Copyright and DMCA Policy, including our repeat-infringer policy.
14. Changes, availability and limits
The App and Services are under active development, and some are offered as beta. We may add, change or remove features, limits and plans. If we make a change that materially reduces a paid Service you are subscribed to, we will tell you in advance where we can, and you may cancel. We try to keep the Services available but do not promise they will be uninterrupted, error-free or available in every country.
Usage limits (storage, file sizes, game counts, request rates and similar) apply to keep the Services fair and working. Don't try to get around them.
15. Ending your account
You can delete your account from your account page at any time. Deleting it removes your account, devices and license, your games and their pages, your ratings, comments and reports, your player saves and scores, your Cloud projects, and takes your community assets out of the Library; stored files no one else uses are then deleted by our regular clean-up. Some records are kept as described in the Privacy Policy.
We may suspend or close your account under section 13, or if we stop offering the Services (with reasonable notice where possible, so you can download your Cloud projects). Sections 4 (responsibility for AI use and keys), 5 (the limited survival of licenses), 16, 17, 18 and 19 survive the end of these Terms.
16. Disclaimers
THE APP AND SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE". TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT, AND ANY WARRANTY THAT THEY WILL BE SECURE, ERROR-FREE OR UNINTERRUPTED, THAT DATA WILL NOT BE LOST, OR THAT AI OUTPUT WILL BE ACCURATE. You use the App's automation at your own risk, including file changes, terminal commands and desktop control made by an AI agent.
Some places do not allow some of these disclaimers; there, they apply only as far as the law allows.
17. Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT THE LAW ALLOWS, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR LOST PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA OR GOODWILL, OR FOR THIRD-PARTY AI OR API CHARGES, ARISING FROM THE APP OR SERVICES, EVEN IF WE WERE TOLD THEY WERE POSSIBLE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE APP AND SERVICES IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNTS YOU PAID US IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM AND (B) US $50.
Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, such as for fraud, or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or your rights as a consumer that cannot be waived.
18. Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of Your Content, your games, or your breach of these Terms or the law, you will defend and indemnify us against it, including reasonable legal costs, unless the claim was caused by us. This does not apply where the law forbids it for consumers.
19. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Tennessee, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes will be heard only in the state and federal courts in Hamilton County, Tennessee, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction. If you are a consumer in a country whose law gives you the right to bring claims in your local courts or under your local law, you keep that right.
Before filing a claim, please contact us so we can try to resolve it informally within 30 days.
20. Other terms
You must follow export-control and sanctions laws when using the App and Services. We may assign these Terms as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of the business; you may not assign them without our consent. If part of these Terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. Our not enforcing a term is not a waiver. These Terms and the documents they mention are the whole agreement between us about the App and Services.
We may update these Terms. We will show the new date here and, for material changes, tell you in the App or by email before they take effect. If you keep using the Services after that, the new Terms apply; if you don't agree, stop using the Services and delete your account.
