Castle rampart wall with gate passage, 8 m

Weathered medieval castle curtain wall in dressed limestone ashlar, an 8 m section with a round-arched gate passage through its 2.6 m thickness: a 3.6 m wide outer arch in a stepped voussoir ring, a door rebate, a 4 m wide barrel-vaulted passage with draw-bar holes and a flagged floor, and the 5 m wall-walk, parapet and merlons continuing over the top; no doors (door socket on the rebate). Eroded joints, chipped stones, moss, damp, run-off streaks, torch soot in the vault, limewash and mason's marks.
